NEARBY

ASSISI

Assisi is famous for being the birthplace of St. Francis, founder of the Franciscan order, and for the beautiful basilica dedicated to him. You can explore the narrow streets and alleys of the historic center, with its ancient buildings and beautiful views.

Or you can walk the Way of St. Francis or the Lauretan Way: an ancient route that led to Rome and Loreto to the Shrine of the Holy House of Mary. More than a path, it is a open-air museum of places, routes and memories, 150 km long and divided into seven stages, each about 22 km long, which for the beauty of the landscapes will remain in your heart for a long time.

EXPLORE PERUGIA

Perugia is the capital of Umbria, the city has a rich history and many beautiful buildings, including the Palazzo dei Priori and the Fontana Maggiore. You can also explore the underground city, with its ancient tunnels and chambers.

Todi: is a charming town on a steep hill. Every corner is spectacular, from the main square, Piazza del Popolo, to the splendid Duomo and Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, just outside, with panoramic views of the valley. You’ll understand why the friar and poet Jacopone da Todi was so inspired by the area.

ORVIETO

The Cathedral Square in Orvieto, Contains 500 years of sculptures and mosaics. The jewel in the center is the Chapel of San Brizio, but as Brunello Cucinelli says,  “I always walk the two double-helix ramps of the Pozzo di San Patrizio in Orvieto, (added to the Unesco selection of Water Museums). The ramps work in perfect harmony, synchronizing those going up and those coming down. The dodecagonal tower in Piazza della Repubblica has a unique geometric momentum; it was squeezed between the Renaissance town hall of the Palazzo Comunale and the Church of Sant’Andrea”

EXPERIENCES

Bike tour in Bevagna

If you come to visit Umbria, do it sustainably by touring it by bike or e-bike. Start in Torre del Colle, a medieval village of 15 inhabitants and unsurpassed charm. Pedal through Bevagna, elected among The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, discover ancient medieval crafts and the tradition of the world-famous Mercato delle Gaite. Then cross the Valle Umbra, all in the plains, all the way to the winery. After Bevagna you can not fail to come to Spello another  of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy.

Umbria Slow Food Tour

Taste the local cuisine: Umbria is famous for its delicious food, including truffles, wild boar, olive oil and local wines. You can enjoy these specialties at many restaurants and trattorias in the region.

We recommend the Tipico Osteria dei Sensi Montone as the first stop in the guide of the Osterie d’italia published by Slow Food.

In the center of Assisi we recommend Trattoria Pallotta

Trail between Todi and Orvieto

Do you like hiking? Follow the gentle course of the river Tevere winding through the woods: there is hardly a trace of civilization. As you walk along the shores of Lake Corbara, the landscape begins to change: the hills soften, the horizon opens up, and then you see Orvieto clinging to the cliff, seeming to rise toward the sun.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

We are in the middle of Nature

We are at  4.5km from the airport. Follow direction Collestrada, on the main provincial road, you will find a tree-lined gravel driveway. Follow it all the way to the end, turn left, then straight ahead, you will be in front of an old little church, where you will see the sign Tramonto su Assisi, turn left and continue for another 3 minutes on the gravel driveway and you will be at the base of the entrance gate to the hill of Tramonto su Assisi. The driveway is sloping, with gravel. At night the path can seem long. But it’s the right way.
